This is not Peranakan, Malay, Indian or Chinese mee siam. This is Mummy Soh’s mee siam.
This came about living in Telok Kurau amongst Malay, Eurasian, and chinese kampungs, where mothers exchanged recipes and mixed and matched to create their own. Much also depended on what was growing in the garden.
Just like the word “compound” is derived from “kampung”, we take in all the influences and made it ours. In other words, rojak. That’s the best way to describe Mummy Soh’s mee siam.
